Clarinetist Yumi Ito has been performing as a recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral player throughout Japan, the U.S. and other countries. She is a winner of several international competitions including the First prize winner of the 11th KOBE International Music Competition and 42nd International Jeunesses Musicales Competition in Belgrade, where she was awarded second prize and a special prize for the best performance of the compulsory piece.

Yumi has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras including the Brussels Philharmonic, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Manchester Symphony Orchestra and Camerata Serbica. She had been heard in concerts in major concert halls around the world, the Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall in New York; Opera City and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

In addition to her career as a soloist, Yumi is a very active chamber player. She is a member of the acclaimed clarinet choir the NY Licorice Ensemble with which Yumi has released three CD albums.

2017 marks Yumi’s debut as an Artistic Director and co-founder of the Shinshu Marumero Music Festival in her home area Suwa, Japan.

Yumi Ito received her Bachelor of Arts from Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo studying with Masaharu Yamamoto. Her Masters of Music is from Manhattan School of Music where she further perfected her skills under the tutelage of Charles Neidich and Ayako Oshima.
